Resolution in the county council

MONOCAB OWL project to remain permanently in Lippe

"The idea is simply so exciting for the mobility of the future that the MonoCabs must stay in Lippe and be tested here. These innovative single-rail vehicles help to ensure climate-friendly mobility in line with demand, especially in rural areas." - District Administrator Dr. Axel Lehmann

District Administrator Dr. Axel Lehmann is therefore very pleased that the district council unanimously approved a corresponding resolution at its most recent meeting. A section of the disused Extertalbahn line is planned for test operation. The rail infrastructure is owned by Verkehrsbetriebe Extertal (vbe), a subsidiary of the district of Lippe. "The vbe is thus also assuming responsibility for the region," says Lehmann, who is also chairman of the vbe supervisory board.

The district supports the necessary measures for the implementation and execution of a continuing test operation. Cooperation with RailCampus OWL in Minden is being sought in order to exploit synergy effects. In addition, the district and vbe GmbH would like to continue to accompany the consortium of Landeseisenbahn Lippe e.V., TH OWL, FH Bielefeld and Fraunhofer IOSB-INA as associated partners. "In what form this will take place - for example, via a cooperation agreement - we are examining with the players. Through this comprehensive cooperation, the project can attract attention far beyond the region," says Lehmann.

MonoCab OWL is a project of the REGIONALE 2022. The aim is to have automated cabins running on just one rail. This will provide a demand-driven passenger service. The MonoCabs will be used on existing, reactivated lines. The idea originated with Landeseisenbahn Lippe e.V. and is supported by the district of Lippe. The project is being implemented under the leadership of the OWL University of Applied Sciences with other partners from the scientific community.
