Urban land -
Connection to the cities

North Lippe in East Westphalia. A rural region, typical of so many sparsely populated areas in Germany: with a lot of quiet, a lot of space - and a lot of "but". But there is hardly any public transport! But without a car, we're screwed! But the railroad has shut down the line! So that the country does not lose its connection, it must remain mobile - for more quality of life and more economy.

In order to create precisely this mobility in rural areas, the OWL University of Applied Sciences and the Landeseisenban Lippe e. V. association joined forces with two project concepts and are working together on the development of MONOCABS: a self-propelled cabin on the rails of the historic single-track railroad line between Lemgo and Extertal. And not just one: Because there will be many of them, running in both directions on one track - at the same time! Because MONOCAB runs stereo thanks to gyroscope technology: as a gyro-stabilized monorail. The MONOCABs can run in continuous circulation like a paternoster - and can be ordered like cabs for individual trips to the village or the city. Simply by app, around the clock, 365 days a year. Individual, automated, on demand, but with abundance - as IPNV, the individual local passenger transport. So that people in the countryside become more mobile and independent.

In the meantime, the MONOCAB OWL project is a network of many partners who are developing solutions for the technical challenges. On board are the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences, the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, the Landeseisenbahn Lippe e. V., Fraunhofer Lemgo and the district of Lippe - to get the idea onto the rails.
